Book Summary & Description
Shes that rare famous person who makes themselves extremely publicly accessible, but in an actual authentic way. Her online presence doesnt appear to be artfully constructed by a PR firm. It led me to believe Teigen tried to make a lot of food, but that it probably turned out kinda terribly most of the time. I expected one of those books with a If youre a super rich person like me, you can have your housekeeper make you gluten-free llama milk infused baby kangaroo burgers too tone. I promised I would give a recipe or two a try, but that I was probably going to pass this book along to someone else for their amusement. A book deserving of early admission to Food52s Piglet 2017 tournament (even though it does not have the pedigree of the usual entrants). Cobb Salad with Honey Mustard Ranch Dressing: An actual text I sent to my wife: &^%$, this is a good salad.
Sesame Chicken Noodles: This is a really well-constructed recipe (you use the same water you boil the chicken in to cook the pasta). Italian Sausage Meatloaf: This is a really good recipe – adding Italian Sausage to meatloaf is brilliant – but I screwed it up a little. I tried to make it on a solo parent weeknight, so I rushed a little and didnt mix it up as fully as I should have which led to some mushy breadcrumb only sections. It also needed more time in the oven than the recipes about 1 hour step. My minor related suggestion here though would be to add a cook to XXX degrees step. Literally Stovetop Pork Chops: We dont usually bread our pork chops. Ive certainly never thought, Hey, maybe lets get some Stovetop Stuffing mix and bread our pork chops with that. Its so good that when I asked our daughter a week later what she wanted for dinner, she said, Hmmm. . . . Pork Chops!
I want to make it again with basil fresh from the garden, because it was delicious with store bought stuff, but I think it would be heavenly with some leaves pulled fresh from the stalk. Easy recipe, great, slightly crispy green beans. Warm Corn Salad: This is actually a component of the Seared Scallops recipe that I wanted to make, but couldnt find the right scallops for, so we pivoted and had Sole instead. I like having the breakfast vs salad vs noodles vs dinner type sections. The recipe introductions are right in line with the tone of Chrissy Teigen. The stuff that reminds her of her mom, or her dad, or that thing that John Legend made that everyone loves. If you love love love all of of Chrissy Teigens tweets, then by all means, sit down and read this cookbook cover-to-cover. On the other hand, if you just like her sense of humor, I might recommend reading the book in small portions.
At first I thought it was just because it exceeded my expectations so greatly, but after further analysis, I think its because it contains really delicious recipes, the recipes themselves are very well-written, and its obvious that the recipes have been well-tested. I could cook exclusively from this book for a month and wed be happy family. You should definitely buy this book if youre a huge fan of Chrissy Teigen. But, surprisingly, you should also buy this book if you simply love good food. One phrase review of this cookbook: Shockingly Fantastic Like, shocked shocked. Most importantly: The recipes As I do with most cookbooks where I start to see a recipe or two, or three, early in the book that I want to make. Cobb Salad with Honey Mustard Ranch Dressing: An actual text I sent to my wife: &^%$, this is a good salad. This was one of the best salads I have ever eaten, much less prepared (there are a lot of steps with this one, and theres a whole bunch of chopping, but its an extremely well-written recipe). Sesame Chicken Noodles: This is a really well-constructed recipe (you use the same water you boil the chicken in to cook the pasta).

Its so good that when I asked our daughter a week later what she wanted for dinner, she said, Hmmm. . . . Pork Chops!Pad Grapow Chicken (Basil Chicken): This recipe is from the tiny Thai Mom section of the cookbook and it makes me kinda hope for a future Thai Mom specific book.

On the other hand, if you just like her sense of humor, I might recommend reading the book in small portions. In no way does this detract from the greatness of the food you will make based on this book, but just be forewarned.
I could cook exclusively from this book for a month and wed be happy family. You should definitely buy this book if youre a huge fan of Chrissy Teigen. But, surprisingly, you should also buy this book if you simply love good food. Im a very experienced home cook, but even for those with less experience, these recipes are manageable. I laughed a bit at some of the modelesque photos of Chrissy (not that she doesnt look amazing) because I rarely see that in a cookbook. The recipes arent healthy by any stretch, but I think that is fairly clear in the book description. The ingredient lists are fairly long, and I feel like the recipes take a bit longer to prepare than the recipe states, so just know that. I feel like many of the recipes in here are things most people will have tried in some iteration, myself included. I hope she comes out with another book, and I would love a dessert section.
The recipes are not complicated, they dont require 50 ingredients you can only find in 12 different specialty stores. She is so freaking hilarious, cooks incredible food, speaks her mind no matter what, and is one gorgeous chick (not that this part matters in the slightest. . honestly). I am an avid follower of Chrissys food blog, sodelushious, and have cooked numerous meals I didnt think possible all with the help from my girl, Teigs 😉 Her seared scallops have been a staple on my menu since the first day I tried those babies in my mouth. Luckily for all of us, Chrissy Teigen released her very first cookbook on Tuesday. With sections like breakfast all-day, soupmaster, vegetable things, party time, things that intimidate people but shouldnt, (and even more) you know youre in for something special!
There is incredible photography throughout. . of every single recipe (this is how I like my cookbooks so I can look at the food going nom nom nom) and obviously of supermodel Chrissy Teigen and her husband John Legend. Theres so much to munch on here including: sour cream and broccoli baked potato cakes, everything chicken sandwich melts, secretly spicy deviled eggs, actual drunken noodles, roasted whole fish, split pea soup with crispy hot dogs (and hot dog bun croutons), dutch baby pancake, and just so so much more. Girlfriend clearly knows that kings hawaiian rolls make a sandwich that much better and her cheesy jalapeo tuna casserole has potato chip topping!I admit some of the Thai classics scare me, but Im an American girl whose extended knowledge of Asian food is basically sushi or Chinese takeout. Pepper Thai (Chrissys adorable mom) is amazing.
The introductions for each recipe, as well as the intro to the book, all have a way of making me laugh and enjoy every word Im reading. Usually in cookbooks, these kinds of things feel like fluff and I avoid reading them. She talks about everything from life and fast food battles to how her husband John Legend makes the best mac&cheese to how she made recipe x while watching Real Housewives. She even calls out Taco Bell for copying a recipe based off an instagram pic she posted. I dig it. . I love Chrissys spunk, sass, wit, whatever you want to call it. Im over here hoping beyond all hope that Chrissy Teigen decides to come out with a second cookbook because I really cannot get enough of her recipes or personality. On publishing this cookbook she accidentally put her cell phone number in it and didn’t realize it until hundreds of calls later.
One story she told about starting to put up food pics on Instagram and the guys just telling her to show more TITTAYYYY cracks me up. Anyways the food. . . glorious food. The Tuna Casserole with Jalapeno chips, I did cut back on the amount of cheese. It asked for 3 cups of cheddar cheese in just the bottom layer. . I only used two and didn’t add any to the topping like the recipe called for. I also made her Garlicy Cheese bread and cut the amount of ingredients in third and still had too much topping. The flavors were good though. Booksource: Blogging for books in exchange for reviewIn fact, even if the recipes were total crap, I’d still enjoy this simply for the fact that it’s such a beautiful book just to look at. Whether it’s the authentic Thai cuisine recipes, or down home mac-n-cheese, there’s something in here for everyone.
: If you’re looking for a great book of really high quality recipes, this one will take that to the next level by adding in some stunning photography. So get it for yourself, get it for someone else, but at least check it out next time you find yourself suddenly wandering through the cooking section of your favorite bookstore. *I was provided with a copy of this book in order to conduct this honest review. I checked out this cookbook after seeing one of its appetizing recipes on Pinterest. I’m not that familiar with Chrissy Teigen, but based on this cookbook, she’s crazy photogenic and knows how to cook. I was immediately drawn to about 16 of the 94 beautifully photographed recipes, which I realize is a pretty low percentage, but their quality created a sense of urgency that got me in the kitchen the following day and of course I can’t dismiss the amazing flavors that ensued.
Quote of the Day
There is no happiness in love, except at the end of an English novel.
It should be noted that the recipe did require a trip to the store for several bottles of ingredients that I personally may only find myself using for this recipe (but you may keep them on hand), and the prep work kicked my butt. I’m pulling out the food processor next time to save my wrist from all that chopping and dicing. But oh so worth it. Cultural, sensible, indulgent, but mostly delicious, this is a cookbook I’m really glad I decided to flip through. My personal goal for 2017 was to cook 50%-80% of each section in Chrissy Teigen’s FIRST cookbook. Laugh-out-loud funny, Chrissy can make you want to try even the most questionable recipes (hot cucumber soup anybody??). – Based on personal preference, I cut the salt in most recipes by almost half. Chinese Chicken Salad with Crispy Wonton Skins (4/5)Butter Lettuce with Blue Cheese and Cayenne-Candied Walnuts (4/5)
Chrissy’s Mac and Cheese with Cheesy Garlic Bread Crumbs (3/5)Sour Cream and Broccoli Baked Potato Cakes (4/5)Pounded Thai Green Bean Salad (3/5)John’s Fried Chicken Wings with Spicy Honey Butter (5/5)Balsamic Glazed Brussels Sprouts with Bacon, Cranberries, Walnuts and Blue Cheese (3/5)Ham and Cheese Green Bean Casserole (3/5)Cheesy Jalapeo Tuna Casserole with Potato Chip Topping (3/5) If anyone else out there has made any recipes from Cravings, I would love to hear what you thought and what star rating you’d give!Chrissy Teigen understands the struggle of needing that bikini bod but totally needing some cheesy, carby, goodness!i’m not the biggest fan of cooking, but i do love eating soooo of course i had to make some of these recipes. anyway, highly recommend for beginners or anyone who loves amazing food [which is hopefully everyone LOL].
I was so put off by Teigen’s expletive-laden, idiotic headnotes and the constant attempts to be just hilariously funny, that I didn’t even bother to attempt the recipes. I finished this about a week ago, but I wanted to try some of the recipes before writing up my review. In fact, I was watching Lip Sync Battle while making the second recipe from this book. It is very meat-lover oriented, but you can just leave the meat out or substitute with tofu or whatevs for most of the recipes. And it’s pretty easy to substitute gluten free ingredients with what is available at your local grocery store. The first recipe I tried was for the Sour Cream and Broccoli Baked Potato Cakes. The freaking potatoes took me so long to bake in the microwave, though, that I may try using ready made mashed potatoes next time to see how that works.
I used plain oats this time, but I’d also like to try brown sugar or maybe plain oats with a brown sugar crust on top?So many options!I think next I will try the Baked Pasta Alla Norma with mozzarella bombs. . . or maybe Chrissy’s Mac and Cheese. This book makes me excited to cook and try new recipes. Teigen is creative, funny and you can really tell she loves food and her recipes. I don’t agree that her chicken recipe is better than Ina’s, by the wayI’ve made that engagement chicken and it’s the bomb, but I get why she included hersshe needed to talk about compound butter, and I get that when you’re full of compound butter excitement you’ll say silly things in its defense. Anyway, as a fellow Washingtonian-turned-Californian, I’m pretty excited to try some of these recipes, and I will report back when I do.
Some people may know Chrissy as a model, the co-host of Lip Sync Battle, or even being a part of FABLife, but one thing is for sure, everyone knows her love for food and cooking is endless! Her blog, So Delushious, is where she started sharing recipes, her rambles, and adventures in the kitchen. Now, through 240 pages, and over 100 recipes, youll discover a range from go-to breakfast dishes, savory soups and suppers, to her own creations, and even her mothers Thai classics in her debut cookbook. Chrissy is a home cook who creates delicious, accessible recipes, speaks her mind, shares hilarious stories and rambles, and is someone that many can relate to when it comes to cooking in the kitchen. Whether youre a beginner, or have experience in the kitchen, youll find numerous recipes that youll cook up, and enjoy!
The beautiful (and mouth-watering) photography, brief stories at the beginning of each recipe, and easy-to-follow directions with accessible ingredients makes this a must-have cookbook. I received a copy in exchange for an unbiased review through Blogging for Books. I checked this book out thanks to a recommendation from someone I know and love, and someone whose cooking recommendations I trust completely. Otherwise, I was a bit skeptical about a super model’s knowing enough about cooking to have a lot to offer. Besides, really, on top of being beautiful and rich and married to a world famous musician, was it even fair that this woman knows a thing or two about cooking as well?Chrissy Teigen puts a fresh new spin on so many recipes, offers some I’ve never seen, and organizes her book in a new and appealing way.
Even more fun than food (hard to believe), though, the book is filled with love. You’ll feel better just for browsing through these pages, and you’ll end up with several new ideas for what to cook for dinner (or lunch, or whatever)!I was skeptical about Chrissy Teigen at first but it’s very clear that she has a deep love of good food. The recipes I’ve made so far like the lemony arugula spaghetti cacio e pepe are delicious! The images are beautiful and what I was not expecting was this book is 100% Teigen–meaning it’s hilarious! From drunk stories that end in her needing fake bangs for 2 weeks to a mac & cheese war with her husband this is the first cookbook I actually read cover to cover. When I went shopping for books back home a few months ago, I have to admit that I was wishing I would find Chrissy Teigen’s cookbook, and I did!
I actually read through the whole book, tabbing pages of recipes that looked especially good to me, and it was a fun read. Chrissy has included lots of anecdotes and histories throughout the book that really enhance the overall experience (and she’s genuinely hilarious). Some of the recipes are more difficult than others, of course, but none that I’ve seen or tried have been particularly intimidating. This is not a “How To Get Chrissy Teigen’s Body” cookbook, this is a how to make really tasty, and sometimes lazy, food cookbook. Teigen is likeable and the book is very fun (it’s also beautifully shot). The book includes recipes for craveable foods, pretty much covering all meals but desert. The recipes are sound, and she includes prep and cooking times for each, as well as some variations where applicable.
Oddly, I found the salad chapter and the Thai chapter to be the strongest (odd because I don’t usually find salads that interesting – but these are). Chrissy Teigen, a model and celebrity, has a deep love for food. She filled this book with all of her favorite foods that she enjoys not only cooking, but eating as well. The book is peppered with witty comments, pictures of delicious food, glimpses into her life and family, and amazingly easy to execute recipes. Since she’s a world traveler, there is a large variety of food packed into the cook book. But after reading every page, I fell in love with her wit and her delicious recipes. Even if you never intend to cook, the book is worth the price just for the funny things she says before each recipe. My overall opinion – amazing cookbook, hilarious notes, gorgeous pictures – totally worth every penny.
Cravings is full of recipes that are full of flavor with a little bit of spice. With recipes like French Toast Casserole with Frosted Flakes to Guacamole with Cheese and even Frito Pie Bar, this book has everything that is supposed to bad for you but in a good way. I love cookbooks but I was kinda skeptical at first reading this due to the fact that Chrissy is a supermodel and every book that I have read by a supermodel is all low-fat, no carbs but this book is whole milk, real butter and everything that is good!I loved how Chrissy speaks her mind without holding anything back and this cookbook is my new favorite book to read to get ideas from. I can also say that i’m a Chrissy Teigen fan now and can’t wait to see if she comes out with anymore books!!
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book from Blogging For Books!Chrissy Teigen has grown on me considerably lately – she seems funny, doesn’t take shit and promotes a healthy and happy family life – all things I can get behind. While I guiltily love celebrity entertainment I’m always very skeptical when the A list roll out their cookbooks or whatever their latest product is -but with that said, and skepticism in mind, I really love this cookbook. It is a beautiful, funny cookbook packed with really enticing recipes that are not too complex or necessarily light on calories (though there is a good mix here of reasonably healthy and guilty pleasures). It’s the first cookbook I’ve picked up in a long time that almost every single recipe I’ve got flagged with post-it reminders to “COOK ASAP! ”
